We have yet another power cap increase with new DLC. Black Armory, which released with Season of the Forge, increased the power cap to 650. We must once again increase our power level to be able to take on the new challenges that awaits.

Just like in my in my post; Most Efficient Way to Light Level 600 in Destiny 2, there isn’t a super fast way to go about doing this. There are, however, things to note that will help guide you to do things efficiently.

Update: The Drifter’s Power Surge Bounties are now a good way to quickly bump up to 640 power.

Soft Cap

The soft cap will still be at 500. Again this is the time when leveling up becomes more challenging since you won’t get rare and legendary armor pieces that drastically increase light level.

Grind for Power

And just like in my previous post, the grind to level 650 will be similar but there are some new things to pay attention to. Its still a matter of chasing down powerful gear, Prime Engrams, power gear from doing things like ranking up in the Crucible, doing activities like the Nightfall and getting exotics. Daily and weekly milestones are still a good way to get powerful gear but now the forges give powerful gear as well.

Power Gear Tier Levels

Now when going after powerful gear there are actually tier levels of power for powerful gear. What I mean by that is that the activity/bounties that you complete actually plays a role in how high the gear will drop above your current power level. For example;

  • Large power gains: Prime engrams, Black Armory Forge drops and Exotic drops
  • Medium power gains: Petra weekly bounties, raid bounty and raid clan bounty
  • Small power gains: Petra bounties and challenges, weekly bounties, daily bounties, crucible rank-ups(also gambit), flash points, etc.

So use this information to determine which course of action you would like to take. Hunting for prime engrams may be your best bet. Try grinding out Escalation Protocol since that has a lot of yellow bar enemies.

If you’re just starting out in Black Armory, then grinding a forge might not be your best option since you will be under-leveled for the most part. In fact, you may be trying to level up just so you can fight in the forge. If you are in fact high enough to comfortably do the forge then try grinding that for primes. I recommend bringing in a Loaded Question and Thunderlord.
