Kickstart Mod Test: How Grenade Kickstart Works in Destiny 2 (Melee and Utility Kickstart)

For anyone who is unfamiliar with how Grenade Kickstart works in Destiny 2, it gives you grenade energy as soon as you use your grenade. Depending on how you build, you could be chuckin’ nades all day and frequently. Some setups almost refund you your full grenade ability after you use your grenade.

In this post, I will be showing exactly how Grenade Kickstart works, how much energy you get per stack, and how much energy armor charges refund your grenade ability. If you’re a Hunter, there are things you can pair it with to get even more. The same should apply to Titans and Warlocks too but since I only use Hunter I can’t speak on that for the other classes.

How much grenade energy do you get per mod?

You can equip up to 3 Grenade Kick Starts (yes they stack). I did a visual test so you can see how much energy you get for each stack.

Armor Charges

If you have Armor Charges when you use your grenade, you get refunded even more grenade energy from Grenade Kickstart. I did a test to see how much you get with 3 charges and then with 6 charges. This is while having 3 Grenade Kickstart mods equipped.

With 3 stacks of Grenade Kickstart and 6 Armor Charges you get half of your grenade energy back! Especially since I know you can equip 3 Bomber mods in your class armor for more grenade energy when you use your class ability. Hunters can put on The Sixth Coyote to get 2 dodges and get double the energy.

So if you have six charges and 3 Bomber mods and 3 Kickstart mods, you almost get your full grenade energy back.

So if you want to be chuckin’ nades all day build all those things together. From the quick test I did, the energy refund is the same for Melee and Utility Kickstart. So do the same if you want an energy refund for those abilities.
