Best Opulent Key Farming Method in Season of the Hunted – Destiny 2

The Opulent weapons are arguably some of the best weapons Bungie made for Destiny 2. Thankfully, they brought them back for Season of the Hunted. You can get these weapons by opening the Opulent chest in the Leviathan using Opulent Keys.

Opulent Keys

Opulent Keys are keys that drop from certain sources and need to be taken to the correct Opulent chest. In order to figure out which chest you need to take the key that you received, you need to inspect the key in your consumable inventory.

The key will have a clue. That clue will tell you the area that the chest is in. It will also give you a hint as to where the chest is located. If you want a guide on all the clue locations, you can check out my guide here.

Where to get Opulent Keys

There are a few ways you can get Opulent Keys to drop; Destination chests, Haunted Alcove chests, and Nightmare Containment reward chests. Naturally, players may feel that the best way to farm the keys is to go do the Nightmare Containment event, but that’s not the case.

Best Opulent Key Farming Method

It’s best to just explore the Leviathan and fight in either the Royal Pools area or the Pleasure Gardens area because of the frequent activity that happens in those areas. Just go there, open chests, and kill every yellow bar enemy you see.

There will be champions that spawn, Nightmare invasions, and special events specific to that area. For example, if you ever see a prompt that says something like “a red dot scans across your ghost”, while in Royal Pools, that means a yellow bar sniper has spawned and you need to go into a specific area and kill him for his reward.

All chests have a chance for you to receive an Opulent Key. Even the regular destination chests. The events happen frequently too, so you’ll be in constant action.

There are about six different Opulent Keys you can get. I found that if you get a key in one area, it doesn’t mean that it will be a key for a chest in the same area. For example, you can get a key for a chest in Royal Pools even if you got the key in Pleasure Gardens.
