Are you confused as to whether attack damage or elemental damage is better in Monster Hunter World? You rightfully should be. It is very confusing.

There are some people who have created spread sheets and damage calculations on this topic but it’s still confusing. What makes it so confusing is that the answer depends on which weapon you’re using. Meaning some weapons are better with raw attack power while others are better with elemental.

Luckily user Kromem on Reddit did a lot of research and was able to provide a simple break down on which weapons you should go for attack and which for elemental. This was his/her breakdown:

His/her break down pretty much line up with some of the research that I did before I saw this post. Also, I was experimenting with attack and elemental values in the training room and saw that increasing elemental damage allowed my shots to do more damage than just raw damage. Therefore, I would say that this is pretty accurate.

By the way, when he/she mentions fire and Ice, it’s the name of the dual blades not the element fire and ice.
