A new Monster Hunter game means new monsters. New monsters mean new battles and a new story. New battles mean new materials to build new weapons and armor. There will be plenty of new monsters in Monster Hunter Rise, but like always there will be some monsters that return from previous games.

If you’re here then like me you want to see all the monsters that you will be fighting. As they are released I will update this list so be sure to check back. This list does not include small animals.

Great Izuchi

Great Izuchi is a Bird Wyvern whose tail has evolved into a scythe-like shape and uses it to attack. It also travels with two other smaller Izuchi and they attack in combination with the Great Izuchi.

Tetranadon

This guy has a gigantic round body. It is very gluttonous and swallows everything. Once it’s done eating, its stomach swells and it becomes slower but more powerful.

Magnamalo

The flagship of Monster Hunter Rise. It’s a Fanged Wyvern that hunts prey with relentless malice.

Aknosom

A bird Wyvern that stands on one leg. When it does, its peculiar collar gives it the appearance of a monstrous parasol. It is territorial and when someone intrudes on its territory, it spreads its wings and unfolds the eye-like crest on its head to terrifying effect.

Bishanten

An omnivorous monster with a distinctive tail that has a preference for fruit, and keeps various fruits with all kinds of effects in its belly pouch.
It enjoys playing tricks on people, and has been seen to bat fruit at its prey using its tail.

Somnacanth

An aquatic serpent that crests on moonlit nights. Extremely aggressive, and territorial. It expels an intoxicating sleep powder from an organ on its neck, knocking out prey before it knows what happened.

Goss Harag

The Goss harag lives in cold climates and uses its breath on its body parts to form sharp ice weapons and attack with. It turns red when angry.

Rakna-Kadaki

People thought Nerscylla when they first saw this image, however, this is a new spider type for Rise. It uses web to stop hunters and then tries to burn them with burning gas.

Almudron

Almudron

Almudron usually keeps to itself deep in the mountains but recently has been attacking hunters and approaching human habitation. Uses mud to attack and even defend itself by sticking it on its body. Kinda reminds me of Gaara from Naruto.

All Returning Monsters to Monster Hunter Rise

Anjanath

If you’ve played Monster Hunter World, you’d be familiar with this guy. Fire-breathing dino. I’m still trying to figure out if it’s male or female.

Great Wroggi

A larger form of the regular Wroggi introduced in Monster Hunter Portable 3rd. Wroggi are bird wyverns that travel in packs that are led by the largest and most toxic member. Be careful when it raises its head and its poison sac expands. That signals that it’s about to spit a cloud of poisonous mist.

Tobi-Kadachi

Yup, this guy showed up in the announcement trailer. So we’ll be seeing more of it and if I had to guess, its sub-species will appear later on.

Arzuros

Arzuros is a Fanged Beast introduced in Monster Hunter Portable 3rd.

Royal Ludroth

This guy was introduced in Monster Hunter 3 and is a larger male form of the regular Ludroth that use its’ sponge-like mane to absorb water and keep from drying out on land.

Lagombi

All you need to know is that it slides all over the place in snowy regions.

Khezu

I was hoping they brought back one of these dark cave monsters. Either the Khezu or Gigginox. Get ready for screams and combos.

Great Baggi

Watch out for its sleep attacks

Barioth

This guy just got done coming to Iceborne to give us a headache. Guess he wasn’t done with us yet.

Mizutsune

I’m personally excited about this monster because I didn’t fight it yet. I had the game but never got to the point of fighting this guy.

Tigrex

Painful screams and constant rush attacks.

Rathalos

Can’t really imagine a Monster Hunter game without the return of Rathalos. It’s like the icon of Monster Hunter. Rathian will most-likely make an appearance too.

Rathian

Of course we cant have Rathalos without its counter part.

Jyuratodus

This guy makes a return. Yeah I know. I know.

Barroth

Kulu-Ya-Ku

The return of the egg stealing bird.

Pukei Pukei

Another monster making a return from world. He was interesting to fight but its subspecies is annoying.

Rajang

It would appear that this guy wasn’t done beating our faces in.

Basarios

Making a return from the first generation Monster Hunter

Volvidon

Diablos

Caused a great deal of pain to hunters in World. But have been making an entrance often in the previous few Monster Hunter games.

Zinogre

It is believed that Zinogre will be making a return since Gargwa (small animals) are in the game and Zinogre loves eating them.

Update: Zinogre is now confirmed.

Nargacuga

This sleek guy is now confirmed to make a return. Watch out for its tail.

Chameleos

I’m happy they’re bringing this one back. This is one of the more interesting monsters in the series and a lot of fun to fight. I will come with the first title update expansion for Monster Hunter Rise in April.

I have other information on Monster Hunter Rise and plan to release more in the future. Check out the Monster Hunter Rise category. Follow me on Twitter to get notified of a new post!
