Just when I thought it would be a long time before we hear anything Monster Hunter related since Monster Hunter World is at the end of its time, Capcom announces Monster Hunter Rise. This is a game that the second Monster Hunter team at Capcom has been quietly working on, which will allow us to break the limitations of the usual verticality with a tool called the wire bug. Similar to the grapple hook, this will allow us to launch the bug and pull ourselves forward or upwards using a string-like material called Silk to the spot that the bug landed.

So as I’ve done through the entirety of Monster Hunter World, I plan to find out all the information and share it for Monster Hunter Rise. They will release more details as we get closer to the release date so I will update this post as it drops.

Monster Hunter Rise

First, I love how this game feels like a combination of older Monster Hunter Game and Monster Hunter World. Also, it’s for the Nintendo Switch, which means that people who missed being able to take Monster Hunter games anywhere with them will be able to do so.

Kamura Village

Like Astera in Monster Hunter World, this will be our base of operation. Its a village known for its Tatara Steel. It was ravaged by something called The Rampage 50 years ago and is about to occur again.

Wire Bug

This will be the main gimmick of this game. Along with verticality, we will be able to perform attacks using this gimmick. From the looks of things, this will be different for each weapon.

Wirebugs act on a short timer and there will be a limit to how many you have ready to throw out.

I’ve also noticed that there seem to be different colors of the bugs around the environment. They haven’t mentioned what each is for yet.

Update

Those are called endemic life. Some of them gives you an additional wire bug (blue with a max of 3) others increase your max health and stamina (green and yellow). These buffs are temporary for the quest you’re on.

There is also other special wire bugs. There is a larger wirebug (called Great Wirebug) that can launch you up for an extreme distance.

Monster Turf Wars

One of the things that I loved in World is the Turf wars. Turf wars are making a return in Monster Hunter Rise, but in the Monster Hunter Direct, they said that they were working on new gameplay elements that arise through fights between monsters, so I can’t wait to see how they improved that.

Mantles?

Personally, I hope they keep the Mantles as an exclusive thing to Monster Hunter World, but if they do bring that system in Monster Hunter Rise, I hope it doesn’t change the cosmetic of your character. An idea that I have is that it’s more of a power up that you can activate to get the same effects. And maybe your character will receive a glow around it to highlight the effect and this system could have some type of customization option.

Palicos and Palamutes

Just like in World, we will have buddies that will assist us with our hunts. Along with Palicos, we will also have Palamutes. Palicos and Palamutes will have different roles.

Palamutes will assist us offensively where are Palicos will assist us with more of a defensive role. We will also be able to ride Palamutes just like the Tailraiders in MHW, except it seem that it will function a bit differently.

There will be something called an Action Slider to give your buddies action commands. You can make it sit or play with them.

In battle, the buddies can get hurt but they won’t run off or anything.

Layered Armor

Layered armor will still be a thing in Monster Hunter Rise. In fact, they have bonus layered armor that you can get if you buy the special game bundle that they will have when the game releases.

Will there be a tent like in Monster Hunter World?

Yup. You can refresh items, manage equipment and manage your buddies things as well.

Item Wheel

There will be an item wheel where you can add items for quick use, just like the Radial Menu in Monster Hunter World. As a matter of fact, it seems to function the same.

Hunt/Battle Details

  • There will be blood
  • There will be damage numbers
  • In this game, once you find the monster, it marks it on the map at all times. You can send things like owls out to go find the monster. So no searching for tracks like in Monster Hunter World. No paintballs.
  • There will be side areas that monster will not enter. In it you will be able to destroy stuff and find things and buffs that are hidden.

Release Date

Monster Hunter Rise will release on March 21, 2021
