This New World mining guide should aid anyone that plans to take up this profession in-game. Miners are much needed in guilds/factions because they provide much-needed materials to others that need and may not have the time to gather. Also, anyone that focuses on this profession may gain access early on to resources others don’t have access to.
In the beginning…
The first thing you will want to do is get the iron mining pick. You’ll need 12 iron ingots, three refined wood, and two leathers. It will instantly raise your gathering speed from 100 percent to anywhere between 125-129 percent.
Pick weapons that scale with strength
At certain thresholds within the strength attribute, you gain mining bonuses. For example, at 50 points of strength, you gain 10 percent mining speed. At 150 points, you gain a 10 percent decrease in the weight of mined items.
Unlocking mining tiers
In mining, you unlock the ability to mine certain resources at certain mining levels. You increase these levels by mining materials. At level 25, you unlock tracking, which guides you to resources on your compass located at the top of your screen. The resource icons will appear on your compass and it will show all resources about 25 meters away.
Iron will be unlocked at the start so use that to upgrade your mining so you can mine other resources. If you would like a tool that shows you the location of most of the resources, you can check my post here.
Once you get the hang of how mining works, you can then get into smelting so you can refine the resources and give or sell them to people. You may become the go-to guy for resources in your faction or guild.
