A new gameplay trailer was released during the Anthem panel PAXWest 2018 giving us a bit more information on the game. The trailer was named Our World My Story, basically expressing BioWare’s mission to focus on each players individual story in a shared world. If you missed it, check it out.

Make you even more excited right? Or maybe you’re a person that don’t want to get your expectations up. Either way there are some things I’ve noticed from this video so here are my 5 takes from the our world my story trailer:

Loot Boxes

Our World My Story Trailer

It appears we have loot boxes (This could have been mentioned somewhere before). It will be interesting to see what type and tier level of rewards come out of these boxes. Also, will this be a one-time pick up or will it respond on a timer similar to how the loot boxes operate in games like Destiny/Destiny 2.

Deeper Dive into Decision Based Narrative Outcomes

I love when games add storyline where the outcome is based on the decisions you make. Not only will this mean that players will have a different story experience, but they could also have certain rewards that you get depending on the path you take. So some of the rewards might not be obtainable (or immediately obtainable) to some players because they chose a different storyline path.

If they do this, I wouldn’t recommend that they make this reward something that might be highly desirable (i.e. a powerful gun). Maybe something light, like a title or an armor shader. Or if it is something like a powerful gun, then have an alternate (slightly more difficult) way of obtaining it.

In this trailer they also talk about how you will interact with your pit crew and learn about their past and the future they hope to see as you build a relationship with them. They also mention how you may encounter shadowy figures with questionable character, all depending on the decisions you make. Your decisions are the key to the fate of everyone.

Change to Damage Numbers

One of the concerns people have are the damage numbers that popped up when you attacked a monster. People mentioned that they were too large and hoped there was an option to reduce the size or remove the numbers. It appears that they have completely removed or already added the option to reduce or remove the numbers.

Large World Diverse Landscapes

With the back story of Anthem being a world left unfinished by the gods with massive tools called Shaper relics, which was used by the Shapers to create the world, the developers can pretty much create whatever world and landscapes they want. It appears that they are doing just that with the landscapes we see in the trailer. The areas look very diverse and makes me believe even more that this world is very massive.

Flight System Looks Crisp and Fluent

We got Storms hovering and doing what looks to be front flips, Interceptors doing spinning aerial AoE attacks and Rangers doing air dodges. All this get me excited for how fluid the air movement and combat system will work. Not to mention flying around in massive, diverse landscapes.

I also noticed what looked to be a rune in one of the scenes.

Rune are a part of the lore items and materials scared throughout the world for players to discover and collect.

Last thing to mention is that during the Anthem panel at PAX, they gave the date for the release of the Demo. The Anthem Demo will release on February 1st 2019. They may release Alphas and Betas before then so keep a look out for that. Anthem release date is February 22nd, 2019.
