When people asked me what games I wanted the most, Left 4 Dead 3 what one of the top three. Of course, instead of being called Left 4 Dead 3, it’s Back 4 Blood. And being that it’s one of the games I wanted the most, I want to learn all the details about it.
Sometimes when developers make a game after their previous successful game they drop the ball. They try to do too much with it and stray far away from the things that we loved in the previous game. Sometimes we just want more of the same, just in a different experience (if that makes sense).
Back 4 Blood is looking like even though they kept a lot the same, they strayed away a bit… but in a good way. Like, we actually want to go where it strayed. At least, this is my strange way of describing it.
But in any case, we’ve discovered more information about Back 4 Blood from sit-down interviews at places like Gameinformer from Matt O’Driscoll, the lead producer. He gave us some more insight on things like the Beta, PvP, Micro transactions, and the direction they wanted to go with the game.
Back 4 Blood Info; Matt O’Driscoll Q and A’s
How PvP works
PvP will be the Cleaners vs the Ridden and you’ll play best of three. The winner will be whoever survives the longest as the cleaners.
He goes on to say that we will have things you can do in the pre-round(before the match start). The Zombie Mutation System (ZMS) will be a point system for the Ridden where you can spend points to increase things like your offense, team abilities, etc. You will be able to do things like upgrade the common horde.
Cleaners will be able to use the card system. The card system will be modified for PvP. It will be separate from the ones you gain from the Campaign mode. Some cards will be the same as PvE but some will be modified.
Q: Will the card system have micro transactions?
Pretty simple on that, there isn’t any. You earn them in-game with in-game currency.
Q: Can you talk more about the variety of the special Ridden?
Yea you can play as the Reeker, Stinger, or the Tall Boy, and each one of those has its own variant. For example, the Tall Boy has a Bruiser variant, and in one of his attacks, he just comes in with a big club and goes “bang bang bang bang”.
Q: No DLC around characters or anything like that?
We’ll have paid content drops later. Right now no one is working on it. If your party leader has paid content, you’ll still be able to play. There’s no split.
Q: No cosmetics or anything like that?
Oh we’ll have cosmetics. We’ll be doing skins for characters. Some weapon skins. You can earn them or buy them.
Can Back 4 Blood be played offline?
Turtle Rock studios tweeted on June 13 that you must have an internet connection to play at launch. They are looking into ways players can be supported while playing offline. Personally, I hope they change this at launch because this may be a turn-off for a lot of people.
