Is Oathkeeper Worth Using Now? Destiny 2

Recently I released a video showing the change to the Oathkeeper. The Purpose of that video was to simply show the change Bungie made to the exotic and how the damage increase works. The increase in damage, however, does not mean an increase in DPS.

During my testing, I found that four of tier 4 ( fully charged) shots are equal to 10 of the tier 1 shots (the normal bow shot). That’s both in overall DPS and time. In other words, it doesn’t matter if you do a tier 4 shot or a tier 1 shot. The overall DPS will be the same in the end.

Does this apply to every bow?

A problem with Oathkeeper is that with some bows, it’s actually not good to use the Oathkeeper perk with it. Le Monarque for example, during my test, I found that both the tier 1 and the tier 4 shot did the same amount of poison damage. That’s not good because since you get 8 ticks of damage per shot, the tier 1 shot will give you more ticks than the tier 4 in the same amount of time.

For example, by the time you fire 1 tier 4 shot, you can shoot 3 tier 1 shots. That tier 4 shot will only give you 8 ticks of poison while the tier 1 shots will give you 24 ticks of poison. So shooting Le Monarque without Oathkeeper will give you more poison DPS than utilizing the Oathkeeper perk to the max level.

It seems that using Oathkeeper with bows that have a secondary effect is not optimal. Perfect with bows like Wish Ender.

Then what’s the purpose of Oathkeeper?

The purpose of Oathkeeper is for peek shots. Let’s say you’re using a bow without Oathkeeper and you’re playing a high-end activity and you take damage and need to take cover. The time you take recovering is time taken away from doing DPS.

Now, let’s say you are using Oathkeeper and you take damage. You can still charge the bow while healing. Then once you heal, peek out and shoot.

The DPS time lost healing is recovered by the Oathkeeper perk. So it’s like you never stopped shooting in the first place.
