I’m Level 100 Mining in New World, Here’s What I Learned

It took me about three days to get to level 100 Mining in New World after the game officially launched. I knew from the beta that Mining was the trade skill that I would want to immediately shoot for. Hopefully what I share with you will help you get to level 100 faster and even make some money if you wish to sell things on the market.

Benefits of leveling up Mining

With most (if not all) trade skills, once you get to level 100, you can start harvesting rare materials/items that other players can’t (until they reach that level). This will allow you to start crafting things that other players can’t. This also means that you can sell those items and players will buy them since they can’t make them themselves.

In the case of Mining, you will be able to start selling things that you crafted with higher-tier materials like Steel(50) and Starmetal(100). As mentioned in my Trading Post guide, you can sell some of the items that are required at the town board. People will buy them because they want to complete the quest.

My Mining leveling journey

At the start, I mined everything that I could. Everyone will start off mining Stone. Then I got high enough to start mining Iron. Once you get to Iron, it’s best that you harvest that along with gold and silver when possible because they give more mining exp than stone.

You also need to develop an efficient mining route. There are online tools that you can use to locate resources around the map. I mentioned them in my resource tool locator post. Be aware, other players may be in your area mining also, so get the edge over them by crafting or buying tools that have high mining speed so it will take you less time to mine each resource and allow you to get to the other resources faster.

Trade Skill path

This isn’t an image of my trade skills

Another thing you want to consider is your Trade Skill path. There are three in total. Gathering, Refining, and Crafting. It’s best not to try to level them all at the start. You want to focus on a certain path so you can sell things that others don’t have yet if you wish to sell.

For example, I started selling steel tools (steel axes, steel pickaxe, steel knives, etc). My tools sold because players who didn’t level their Mining didn’t have the ability to craft those items. Players will eventually begin to level up the other trade skills and won’t need to buy the tools.

So along with Mining (Gathering), I also leveled up Smelting (Refining) so I can turn my iron into steel. Then I leveled up Engineering (Crafting) so I can craft the steel tools. So my trade skill path is Mining, Smelting, and Engineering.

Engineering also allows me to craft higher-tier bows and muskets. I can mine Starmetal now but at this point, my Engineering isn’t at level 100. Once I get it to 100, I’ll start crafting end-game weapons and tools.
