Before I go into details about the Igneous Hammer, there are a couple of things that I should mention. First, 120 rpm hand cannons are meta right now. The second is that this post excludes exotics even though I probably could include them here.

Why is 120 hand cannons meta?

Because Destiny 2 is a game with tracking melee attacks (from far ranges), Stasis abilities, shotguns that can one-shot you from surprising ranges, Titans that are hard to stop when running straight at you, etc. Players have a wide range of options to take you out quickly at closer ranges. At further ranges, those options begin to fade.

In comes 120 hand cannons. Players have grown fond of the 120s because it allows them to keep their distance while still having the ability to kill fast. This is why the True Prophecy, Steady Hand, and Sturm hand cannons are being used more and why they are selected over 140 rpm hand cannons. They are lethal at far ranges.

Now in comes Igneous Hammer

This hand cannon is coming in with better base stats than the legendary hand cannons I mentioned above. To top it off, you can farm for one that gets Rampage. Let’s go over some of the stats that matter for hand cannons for this weapon then and compare them to the others.

Recoil

This comes in with a recoil of 95. This is higher than the Steady Hand (85) and the True Prophecy (93). It’s even higher than the Sturm’s recoil. This means that the gun will mostly kick up and back down and reduce the amount it kicks to the right.

Stability

While the recoil is controlling the kick direction, the stability is controlling how much it kicks. The Igneous Hammer is once again coming in hot. Its stability is 42. The Steady Hand comes in at 32 and the True Prophecy is at 30.

Range

The Igneous Hammer is also leading in the range category too. The range is the major reason 120 hand cannons are popular. This hand cannon has a range of 68. That’s further than the Steady Hand (64), True Prophecy (62), AND the Sturm without the catalyst.

Other Stats

This gun is beating out those legendary hand cannons in handling, reload speed, and aim assistance too. All of this equals out to a better feeling, more accurate hand cannon.

Perks?

It has the standard hand cannon rolls in the first and second columns. In the third column, however, you can get Killing Wind, Outlaw, and Quickdraw. I would recommend you go for Quickdraw. Killing Wind if you want that range after a kill.

Rampage

The fourth column is the big one. It has Rampage. At level 1 Rampage, you can two-tap headshot any guardian that has below 9 resilience. The Steady Hand can not roll with Rampage. True Prophecy can roll with Rampage but isn’t better than Igneous Hammer.

Don’t bother with the other perks. Even Moving Target. The movement speed isn’t significant and the perk overall is a low scenario chance perk. You’ll have to get past abilities, grenades, supers, other opponents’ teammates, other opponents’ Rampage, etc before you get a chance to see its benefit.

Where to get Igneous Hammer

You can get this by completing challenges in Trials of Osiris. If you get the Adept version, you can get the Adept perks like Adept Stability, Adept Range, and Adept Icarus. Adept Icarus keeps accuracy while in the air and increases weapon range slightly.

Any negatives?

The only negative I have about this weapon is that it’s an energy weapon. That means you won’t be able to run it with guns like the Felwinters.

    I feel like less people would complain if they had left The Duke in the game. If anything I appreciate that Igneous creates a strong argument for people to give up their energy slot in favor of a primary they like. Also as another comment mentioned these guns reward accuracy. I think the issue that most players are running into in 6v6 is how these weapons behave in team shot scenarios and the fact that people mimic the top players...it might feel like these hand cannons just destroy everything but until igneous I was using my Sacred Provenance with Arrowhead, High Cal, Rapid Hit, Kill Clip, and a Range MW and it just shreds through opponents and the flinch makes it so that I usually get hit once and then they bail out of the fight or die. High impact and Agressive pulses have a .67 and .73 ttk respectively. But this only works if the person tries to challenge you head on in a primary duel...either way I snagged an igneous god roll on my first drop so I am all set and if they nerf 120's range...well that would be stupid because it's the only thing they have going for them and the solution is to buff other weapons archetypes or make mid to close range gameplay a bit more realistic.

    Yup, igneous hammer with god roll is no joke, dominates all encounters. Tried it in trials as well as gambit, it just destroyes the game with proper rolls. I seriously believe bungie is going to reconsider this release and at least tone it down to bring it in tune with the current meta.This is not forgotten 2018 era all over again, just way easier to get. Not everyone has eagle eye aim in this game, and as things are only players with god rolls will benefit from this. I strongly believe we need a more diverse way to dominate games and matches, releaseing a 2 shot monster in pvp is no fun for anyone but the top tier players that already rank high on the ladders and sitting at 5500 glory points...

    This gun is overpowered, dominates trials, gambit, and it is extremely potent in strikes, raids, destiny2raiding is doing it, or any other new event that comes will probably require top notch gun like this or of similar value. god rolls on top of it makes it even worse. Not everyone plays trials, so this is really difficult to get for some, i hope bungie revise their take on this...
