Lots of speculation have been circulating that we will have a new subclass with the Witch Queen expansion. Bungie tends to “tell us that there’s a new subclass without telling us there’s a new subclass” with hints. Like the hints we had with the Stasis subclass before it was released.
The new subclass will be a darkness subclass
It’s not far-fetched to say that it will be a darkness subclass. It is believed to be a poison-type subclass where tick damage will be the base of how it functions damage-wise. It will function similar to how Stasis functions, with aspects and fragments changing up the way the subclass works.
What hints do we have?
Before Stasis was introduced, we knew of Europa from the lore and early concept art. We knew it would be an icy world. We now know that Stasis is all about icy stuff.
For the poison subclass (speculated to be called Vapor or something along the lines of that), we can first look at the expansion itself. The image Bungie gave us for the Witch Queen expansion has a green poison feel to it.
Next, we have this image:
Bungie teased this image during one of their weekly updates. It’s an image from the Witch Queen expansion. After analyzing the background we see that it’s a location we’ve never been to before. We believe that it’s Old Chicago.
Old Chicago Destiny 2
Old Chicago was part of concept art that was shown during Bungie’s Destiny Panel all the way back in 2013 but was cut from the final product. It makes sense for this to be the next location since not only does it match the greenery from the image but it looks like a swampy toxic area.
Chicago was also a manufacturing hub for Exo under Clovis Bray for a very long time But was consumed by The Collapse until Savathûn took control and destroyed most of the city.
So if we follow how Stasis was linked to the icy world of Europa, then Old Chicago and its toxic environment would be linked to the new subclass; which we believe will be poison-based.
All of this is pure speculation at this point. I just worry about a new subclass because it tends to be overpowered when it first releases. However, it will be interesting to see how it changes the game.
