With the drop of Season 13 in Destiny 2, came some new perks on the new weapons. One of those perks was the Frenzy perk. The Frenzy perk increases damage, handling, and reload for this weapon while in combat for an extended time and lasts until you are out of combat. How exactly does it work?
Well, I did some tests. I measured things like the range of activation, damage increase, and criteria to activate the perk. Here’s what I found.
Does it activate by simply being near enemies?
No, It doesn’t seem to “only” activate by being near or even having enemies in your sight. It also doesn’t seem to activate from damage taken from the enemies (or at least it didn’t when I tested it for some reason). It looks as though you need to first be near enemies and also damage enemies in order for the perk to activate.
Update: Taken damage also activates it. It just didn’t activate when I tested it for some reason. Also, Frenzy activates even if you don’t have your weapon out. It also doesn’t go away when you swap weapons.
Do they need to be really close?
As long as you see red on your map. It may or may not activate on the outer parts of the map but that’s going outside SMG range anyway.
How long do you need to be in combat for it to activate?
It’s hard to say. Sometimes it activated faster than others. I tried timing it from the moment I did damage a couple of times. One time it activated in 8 seconds. Another time it activated after 12 seconds.
Somewhere between 8 to 15 seconds on average. That’s what I counted from the time I damaged them.
Update: It’s 12 seconds. The time that it activated in 8 seconds, I was damaged but didn’t think taking damage activates it.
The time it didn’t activate
There was another time where killed them and it no damage at all. So I think the enemy you damage needs to still be alive for the seconds after you damage it. If you kill them but other enemies that you didn’t damage are around it won’t activate because you didn’t damage them. Or at least that’s what happened in the video below.
How much does the damage increase?
The damage increase is pretty substantial. When shooting some of the Dregs, the damage went up from around 1700 to around 2100. The video will show a better example of this. Also, the perk lasts for about 7 seconds.
So that’s what I found from my test. This perk wouldn’t be useful at all in the Crucible. The activation time is way too long but I believe this was intended because that is a nice chunk of damage increase.
