In Pokemon X and Y, Ninetails was part of my main competitive battle team. Of course I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Alolan Ninetails. Alolan Ninetails base speed is 9 points faster than Ninetails which makes it faster. Here are the recommendations Alolan Ninetails Moveset:
Recommended Ability:
Snow Warning
Snow Warning summons a hailstorm in battle as soon as a Alolan Ninetails enters the battle. If you have other Mons on your team, such as Alolan Sandslash who has Slush Rush as a hidden ability, it will definitely be beneficial.
Recommended Moveset:
Freeze-Dry
Moonblast
Aurora Veil
Disable/Encore
Freeze-Dry is a strong ice move that is super effective against water type Pokemon. That’s right, I said “water type”. Moon blast will help you take care of Dragon types and any others that are weak to Fairy type moves.
Aurora Veil essentially allows you to set up a Light Screen and Reflect within one move which will help your team. The only downside is that it can only be used under Hail.
If you want to run an even riskier but more powerful A. Ninetails, then you can substitute Freeze-Dry for Blizzard. Blizzard is a 110 power attack move that doesn’t miss during a hail storm. The only problem is if someone replaces your hail storm, blizzard goes down to an accuracy of 70 percent.
Recommended Item:
Choice Specs or Icy Rock
Choice Specs boost the power of special attack moves but only allows the use of that first move until you switch out. Combine this with blizzard and the stab you get for using an ice move; you will end up sweeping teams even if they are not weak to ice.
Icy Rock increases the duration on Hail to 8 turns instead of 5.
Recommended Nature:
Timid
Timid reduces attack but increases speed. You will want A. Ninetails at the maximum amount of speed possible. You also want this to be a special attacker so you won’t need any physical attack moves.
Now this isn’t the complete set in stone/best Alolan Ninetails moveset. You can swap a few things. For example, you can swap out hidden power for Aurora Veil, which reduces the damage done to the user and allies by physical and special moves for five turns. It can only be used during a hailstorm, which goes good with snow warning.
