Battlefield 2042 was one of the games that I was really amazed by at E3. That massive battlefield with the harsh weather conditions and the massive player count really turns up the heat for all-out combat. There are several new features that will spice up the combat too.
Story
According to the official website, the world is on the brink of war. There have been rising sea levels, collapsing economies, broken alliances, and the headlines don’t make things any better. There have been new storms, global food, and fuel shortages, and the collapse of great nations.
Revolutions in energy, desert irrigation, hydraulic levees, and sea walls save coastal cities, reclaim farmland, and rebuild supply chains. The hope of finding stability leads to some nations re-opening their borders.
The Blackout Of 2040
A sudden space debris storm creates a “Kessler Effect” causing 70%+ of all orbiting satellites to malfunction and crash to Earth. The cause is unknown.
The subsequent blackout causes mass devastation. Planes crash. Communication grids collapse. Already jammed global supply chains come to a stand-still. Prices of oil, grain, coal skyrocket exponentially. Unsubstantiated claims report over 100,000 lives are lost.
A world on the brink goes over the edge. Zero internet. No navigation. No surveillance. Zero storm forecasts.
Geopolitical distrust surges overnight. No one can spy on each other, so no one can trust each other. Both Russia and the US claim the other is responsible for the Blackout, while some suspect No-Pats were behind it and accuse them of trying to sow anarchy.
Former military and combat-trained Specialists amongst the No-Pats rise up into armed Task Forces to defend themselves as tensions rise.
War
A food and fuel shortage ignites a shadow war between the US and Russia. To maintain plausible deniability, both sides field No-Pat Task Forces as proxies in escalating conflicts over resources – promising the refugees a piece of what’s left.
New Features
Battlefield 2042 will come with some few features that will spice up the battlefield.
128 Players
Yup, that’s right. 128 players. If you thought the previous 64 player lobbies were crazy, you’re really gonna like this. There will be AI soldiers too. In terms of all-out war, Battlefield 2042 has just drastically raised the bar.
Specialist
Along with the normal classes that are in Battlefield, you will also have specialists. A specialist will have one unique Specialty and Trait allowing you to build synergies within your squad and empower yourself to take on any battle situation. There will be ten in total.
For example, in the trailer shown at E3, we saw someone using a grappling hook. Only one specialist has access to that ability. Others will have abilities such as returning downed allies to combat with full health and firing syringes at teammates to heal them.
In-Game Attachment Swapping
You can now switch your attachments in-game. So if you were out in the open and needed your weapon to have a scope for long-range combat but then go inside a building, you can prepare your weapon on the fly for close-range combat.
Vehicle Drops
Before there were spawn locations of vehicles. You had to wait inside the main menu and wait for it to spawn. Then it was a race to see who can get to it first. But with vehicle drops, you can place them in some crazy areas. That changes things up. You can spawn them in areas that people don’t expect them to be and possibly turn the tide of battle.
Vehicle Variety
One of the biggest features in Battlefield games is their vehicles. In Battlefield 2042, they’re adding more variety of vehicles. We saw several different air and ground vehicles in the trailer aside from the normal vehicles that are in Battlefield games.

EA DICE has revealed that we’re going to get our hands on it on October 22, 2021. So later this year.
