We finally got our first looks at gameplay for Animal Crossing: New Horizons during the Nintendo Treehouse showcase. During that showcase, we were able to pick up a few features about the game. One of the major bits of info was the release date which was pushed back to March 20, 2020

You Start On a Deserted Island

They wanted to give the players a new experience. Previously players would come to an already established town. This time they wanted the players to build everything from scratch.

You can move Furniture in Half Units

Previously, you couldn’t exactly control how far you moved something so you couldn’t really place furniture exactly where you wanted it. Now you can.

DIY Recipes

Nook gives you a smart phone. On the phone, there’s an app called DIY Recipes (or Do It Yourself Recipes). These recipes are basically items you can build using certain resources. You can make things like tools to furniture.

Nook Miles

Nook miles are basically Animal Crossings version of airline miles. Basically, you get miles for doing activities on the island and you received some when you moved out to the island. You can exchange them for items and activities.

Different Types of Collectable Crafting Materials

There are different types of crafting materials. So for example, when you chop a tree, you can get wood, but you can also get hardwood.

People Who Live in the Same Island Can Play At the Same Time

That’s right. In addition with the people who you can play with online, you can also play with people who live on the same island with you.

Trees sway with the wind

This may have more significance later on but its a cool added detail.

8 Players Can Live On A Single Island

Four of them can play together. Eight People can gather on a single island.

You can put furniture outside

This will add to the things you can do with your furniture. Have a bonfire? Build a bench around it.

Clams are useful for fishing

You can use clams to craft fishing bait. You might even need clams to craft bait that can only catch certain fish.

If you didn’t see the trailer, here it is:
