All Monster Hunter Flagship Monsters
The Monster Hunter series is celebrating its 15 year anniversary. It has come a long way from its first launch back in 2004 and have built quite a fan base. Even more so in the west with the release of Monster Hunter World.
Each release contained a monster (or monsters) that was considered the flagship monster(s). Kinda like the mascot of that particular release.
So, if you’re wondering why Capcom used Rathalos in their trailers, as the trade monster during their crossover with Final Fantasy and as the monster of choice for a boss fight in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, its because he was the very first flagship monster for Monster Hunter. I guess you can say he’s pretty much the face of Monster Hunter or probably just their favorite.
With many
Rathalos- Monster Hunter
As mentioned, he was the first flagship monster. Rathalos has the title “king of the skies”. Basically the face of Monster Hunter.
Rathalos Weakness
Thunder
Kushala Daora- Monster Hunter 2
Kushala Daora came with the release of Monster Hunter 2 in 2006. It can create a wind barrier around its body making it hard to attack it. That barrier can be weakened by poisoning Kushala.
Weakness
Thunder
Dragon
Azure Rathalos
Azure Rathalos technically is a flagship monster and was the flagship for Monster Hunter G. This game was a Japan exclusive and never made it over to the west.
Tigrex- Monster Hunter Freedom 2
This guy has struck fear in the hearts of many hunters. This was the current flagship monster when I played Monster Hunter for the first time. This guy has been redesigned and is making its way in Monster Hunter World Iceborne.
Weakness
Thunder
Dragon
Nargacuga- Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite was an expansion of Monster Hunter Freedom 2. And this is where Nargacuga came to play. Fighting him is tricky; for example there are a few things that only work when he’s in rage mode.
- Pitfall traps work only when the Nargacuga is in Rage mode.
- If the hunter throws a Sonic Bomb while the Nargacuga is in its Prowler Stance in Rage Mode, it falls over and drops a shiny.
Weakness
Thunder
Fire
Lagiacrus- Monster Hunter Tri
I still remember those under water battles like it was yesterday. Trying to fight this monster and watch your oxygen.
Weakness
Fire
Zinogre- Monster Hunter Portable 3rd
Now since this is my favorite monster in the entire series, we gotta put some respeck on his name. This guy with his abilities to turn super saiyan and wreck havok was a joy to fight. If they bring him into world, all I’m going to say is watch out for his spinning tail flip.
Weakness
Ice
Brachydios- Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Another monster I was a fan of. I loved the perks that come with its armor set. A unique monster indeed. You had to watch out for its explosive slime.
Weakness
Water
Gore Magala- Monster Hunter 4
Another one of my favorites. This guy used to infect hunters and monsters with that frenzy virus. In monsters, the frenzy virus heightened aggression, speed, and strength in monsters, making them dangerously short-tempered and ferocious. In humans, once infected a person will experience a nullification of their healing abilities, making it impossible to recover health without the aid of healing items. They also receive more damage from a frenzied monster’s attacks.
Weakness
Fire|Thunder| Dragon
Seregios- Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
This guy was a pain. He can fire its quill-like scales at attackers as well as using its powerful feet and talons to slash and grasp prey and foes alike. Those quills used to cause bleed so you would be crouching or (if I remember correctly) eating mosswine jerky to get it off.
Weakness
Thunder | Ice
Raizekusu, Dinovaldo (Glavenus), Gamuto, Tamamitsune- Monster Hunter X
This was the first time 4 flagship monsters were featured in one version. Each monster correspond to the villages in the previous games in the series (Pokke Village, Yukumo Village, Kokoto Village, and the new Beruna)
Valstrax and Bloodbath Diablos-Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate
These guys were added in alongside the four flagship monster from the previous game.
As for Blood Diablos, compared to normal Diablos it has
Nergigante- Monster Hunter World
If you played World, this guy needs no introduction. As a matter of fact, at the time of writing this article, the Arch-Tempered version is terrorizing people. If his spikes turn black, watch out for is dive bomb. Bring earplugs.
Weakness: Thunder
Valkhana- Monster Hunter World: Iceborne
As of right now, we don’t have much information on this guy. We know he use ice element. Velk in Latvian translates to “pull” in English which may hint towards Velkhanas relationship with the flying wyverns and why they seemed to be drawn to hoarfrost reach by its call and may explain what the “singing” was in the trailer revealed for Iceborne.
Magnamalo
Introduced in Monster Hunter Rise. So far what we know is that it’s a fanged Wyvern that hunts its prey with relentless malice.
Malzeno
Malzeno is an elder dragon introduced in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. It drains the life out of monsters and hunters and inflicts them with bloodblight. Once it gets enough blood its strength and agility greatly increase, almost to the point where it looks as though it’s using instant transmission.
So those are all Monster Hunter flagship Monsters. There is some speculation that Capcom will bring them all to Monster Hunter World for the 15th anniversary of Monster Hunter.
I have other information on Monster Hunter Rise and plan to release more in the future. Check out the Monster Hunter Rise category. Follow me on Twitter to get notified of a new post!
