If there was a hall of fame for games (there may be one and I’m just unaware of it) Mortal Kombat would definitely be in it. A game started by four people ended up being one of the greatest games of all time. Mortal Kombat was one of the first games to cross the line for blood and gore in video games.
I still remember the code to activate blood mode; A,B,A,C,A,B,B. Followed by Scorpions voice saying “get over here” when inputted correctly. Although, you had to be careful playing it. Around that time parents believe violent videogames made children grow up to be violent people.
Over the years the game grew and developed more. There are a lot of interesting facts in and about the franchise. Things that I will share with you in this article.
The creators put themselves in the game
The corpses at the bottom of the Pit stage in Mortal Kombat are some of the original 4 creators. Ed Boon, John Tobias and John Vogel.
Noob Saibot
Noob Saibot is just two of the series’ creators’ surnames spelled backward, Ed Boon and John Tobias. Another thing they did to incorporate themselves into the game.
Jean-Claude Van Damme
Jean-Claude Van Damme was almost Johnny Cage. The first Mortal Kombat was based on the idea of making a game starring Jean-Claude but it fell through. Cage was them paying homage to him. Jean-Claude; Johnny Cage.
Ermac was created from a rumor
According to Fandom, Ermac was created by the MK Team because of fan mythology. It was said that by overplaying the Sega version of Mortal Kombat with Scorpion, the screen would eventually flaw and flash an alert message on screen. The message read “ERror MACro” and it would turn Scorpion’s yellow outfit red. This was proven to be completely false. However, despite repeated references that tried to inform the player that Ermac did not exist, they eventually decided to create him and include him in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3.
Those are just a few of the interesting facts about Mortal Kombat. For information on other games you may be interested in, check the Hallowpeak category. Feel free to follow Hallowpeak Gaming on Facebook and Twitter if you would like to get notified of posts I make in the future.
