Destiny 2 is officially a little over a month away. So much information have been revealed about Destiny 2 that its easy to forget some of it. I’ve compiled a list of 32 things revealed about Destiny 2 throughout the months.
This article will be a “refresher” for some who followed the bulk of the news revealed and an “information guide” for others. Also, some things may have been confusing when revealed. Hopefully this will clear it up.
Some of these things could change. After the Destiny 2 Beta, Bungie stated that some of the things we experienced has already been modified. As of now, however, here’s 32 things revealed about Destiny 2 so far:
1. There are 3 New Subclasses that replace 3 old subclasses
Out of all the things revealed about Destiny 2, this would be the thing that most people know. In case you don’t ,however, the 3 subclasses are the Arcstrider (Hunter, arc) Sentinel (Titan, void) and Dawnblade (warlock, solar).
2. Defender Bubble is not gone
A lot of people wondered how difficult raids would be without the defender bubble. Then we learned that the Sentinel Titan still carries the ability to create a Titan bubble.
3. There are new Crucible game modes
Countdown is one of the game mode and is played in a series of rounds in which two teams of players take turns alternating between attacking and defending. The attacking team is given two sites, A or B, where they can plant a bomb. Once the bomb is planted, the defenders have a certain amount of time to defuse the bomb before it detonates.
There is also a survival game mode where teams will share a set amount of lives. Obviously, once they run out they lose.
4. Crucible now is 4v4 on all game modes
Unless Bungie decides to change this for any other game modes not yet revealed, all game modes have only 4 players on each team. Possibly the Trials of Osiris game mode for D2 will be different.
5. Control has changed in Crucible
1 zone will automatically be capped by each team (A and C) and players must fight for the last remaining zone (zone B) or try to take the enemies zone. The more zones you have, the more points you get per kill. Having all 3 zones results in a Power Play, which basically means hurry up and kill people!
6. We have a new social area
If you played during the Destiny 2 beta, then you may have taken the opportunity to explore the Farm in the European Dead Zone. Bungie opened it to the public for one hour. No venders (or chickens) were on the farm.
7. There will be way more in-game story
Bungie is ditching the grimoire cards. In Destiny 1, the grimoire cards were your main source for storytelling inside the Destiny universe. This, however, meant you had to visit Bungie’s website and read up on them. Bungie now wants to add story into the game. You had to collect dead ghost in order to get a grimoire cars so I don’t there will be any dead ghost to collect unless they now serve a different purpose.
8. There are treasure maps
Treasure maps are said to be maps that lead to loot you obtain after following the map. There are said to be treasure keys you get after completing certain events. Treasure keys may be needed to obtain treasure maps or during your exploration of a treasure map.
9. You don’t have to go to orbit to visit another planet
Yep. Fast travel between planets is a thing now.
10. Destiny 2 will be on PC
It won’t release the same time as consoles but the Destiny 2 PC release date is October 24 2017.
11. There is a new currency called Strange Dust
Not much info on this yet. Could be for Xur. Could be some type of trading currency.
12. Snipers, Shotguns and Fusion Rifles now belong in the power weapon slot
There are still 3 slots but the first 2 slots are for kinetic and elemental primary weapons and side arms. No shotguns and/or Fusion rifles will be in these slots.
13. Trials of Osiris is now called Trials of the Nine
If you know your Destiny lore you know Xur is an agent of the Nine. How this ties in with the game mode is unknown. This bit of information was actually leaked by sources that leaked other information that was known to be true.
14. One of the Expansions will be Osiris Themed
As you can see in this image of the first 2 Destiny 2 expansions, one of them will be Osiris themed. No further details have been released.
15. There are activities called Adventures and Lost Sectors in addition to Patrols and Public Events
Adventures are quest you embark on to further tell story about the world in the Destiny universe. They are quick and have no load screen so you can activate them while you are free roaming.
Lost sectors came from the idea of finding a cave and exploring it, then finding a boss and finding treasure. Lost sectors are symbolized by the highlighted icon below which are painted on the surrounding enviorment. Once you find that logo, you must find the entrance.
The 3 other icons are Patrols (left), Public Events (middle) and Treasure maps (right).
16. Striker Titan Shoulder Charge no longer kills in one hit
The gif in this tweet shows what happens when a full health player is hit with shoulder charge:
Striker titan no longer can one hit you with shoulder charge, seems like #Destiny2 is staying away from the OHKOs 🙏🏾 pic.twitter.com/pm7Z8k5lIL
17. Some characters will not return to Destiny 2
RIP to the Stranger. Famous for calling our ghost “Little Light”. Bungie stated that her and some other characters will not return. Let’s hope they change their mind.
18. There is a mantle feature added to Destiny 2
Yup. There is a ledge climbing mechanic.
19. Destiny 2 will only be 30 fps on console
Luke Smith and Mark Noseworthy spoke with IGN. When asked why Destiny 2 is 30fps, they said, ” The console, the PS4 Pro is super powerful, but it couldn’t run our game at 60. Our game’s this rich physics simulation where collision of players, networking, etc, and like, it wouldn’t run. “Not enough horsepower there yet.”
20. Power ammo in the Crucible is no longer shared
Yep. Only one person can pick it up. It also respawn more frequent. This will call for some serious strategic planning in any tournament games.
21. Intellect, Dicipline and Strength is a thing of the past.
We now have Resilience for armor, Mobility for speed/agility and Recovery for health regen. The point system has been simplified as well.
22. Blink is still in Destiny 2
People first thought they were taken out. But then we saw people blinking all over the place during the beta. But don’t worry people who played throughout the meta of Destiny 1, the blink-shotgun combo will not be a thing with the new weapon load out mechanics and the way heavy ammo works.
23. Weapons will have mods
So far what we know it that you will be able to equip shaders and elemental perks to weapons.
24. Sticky grenades no longer kill in one stick
It seems Bungie wanted to stay away from one-hit (or stick) kill mechanics. So no more stick and run strategies.
25. There is a new weapon type called Trace.
The Coldheart is an exotic rifle in Destiny 2 that will be given to players as a pre-order bonus. This trace rifle is the first of its kind that shoots a laser-beam style projectile.
What this new weapon type will do to the crucible meta is not yet known. My guess is that it will go into the heavy weapon category.
26. There are now World Quest
Best way to explain World Quest is that if Adventures are represented as bit size stories, then World Quest would be more multi-part larger stories about a certain location.
27. Public events now have a heroic trigger
There will be an optional objective that you can complete during Public events. Trigger this and you will activate a harder version of the event. Complete it to get additional rewards.
28. There are events called Flashpoints
Flashpoints are weekly events where people group up at a set location and complete a series of public events to get the thing that we will talk about next. There will also be secret bosses that can only be triggered during Flashpoints and these bosses will have their own specific loot.
29. There are new gear called Prestigious gear
When you complete the Flashpoints you get something called prestigious gear. What Prestigious gear is is unknown and is symbolized with a white engram.
30. In addition to earth, there are 3 new places to explore
This was one of the first things revealed during the first gameplay premier
Nessus: a planet that has been fully taken over by the Vex. Although there is plenty of foreign vegetation and landscapes, Vex structures will be as mysterious as ever when discovered and explored.
Io: is the last place that the Traveler touched before the Darkness appeared. The sulfuric moon of Jupiter is full of mystery and treasure to discover.
Titan: is a moon of Saturn. The ocean-based moon holds remnants of a great Golden Age city of humanity. Monolith structures and towering buildings are available to explore.
31. Clans are now In-Game
Clans can now, in-game, open their doors for people to join them when doing things like raids. This is good because if someone leaves in the middle of a raid, they can just open the door and have someone else join. Sherpas should love this also.
32. Power weapons now have features that allow you to identify it.
When you’re in the Crucible, you can tell when an enemy is sniping by the glare coming from the gun. Now other power weapons have a system for you to identify it so you can act accordingly. Here’s a graph showing the different indicators:
That’s just about all the main things revealed about Destiny 2. If you know info that you think we should know, be sure to comment down below and let us know. The official release date for Destiny 2 on both Playstation 4 and Xbox One is on September 6th.
