The Gridskipper pulse rifle has now become my favorite pulse rifle in the game. And I hate that. Well, I guess it’s more like a love-hate relationship.

I hate it because it just overtook what used to be my favorite pulse rifle; the Timeworn Spire. The Timeworn Spire is a kinetic weapon. The Gridskipper is an energy weapon.

This means that if I’m going to use this pulse rifle, I have to give up my other favorite energy weapons I like to use as a secondary in the Crucible; Like the Felwinters Lie shotgun. Plus I have a thing where I hate using guns like pulse rifles and auto rifles in the energy slot. I look at the energy slot like a secondary weapon slot and like to use things like shotguns and fusion rifles.

These are some of the reasons that I was in denial about the Gridskipper at first. But when I went up against players using it in the Crucible, it felt as though they had the upper hand a lot of the time. Still, my denial went on but I told myself that I would check it out someday.

That day finally came. After hearing some chatter about it and viewing the high ratings it got on light.gg, I finally decided to take it for a spin. After a few matches, I put my Timeworn Spire in the vault and started searching for a new kinetic secondary weapon.

The Gridskipper just feels too good and very sticky. Easy to control. All this especially if you’re using a controller.

Gridskipper Stats

I had to go look at its’ stats to see what it was made of. I found that this gun statistically slightly beats Timeworn in almost every category. There is one stat that I believe makes all the difference; bounce direction.

Source: light.gg

Timeworn’s bounce direction tends right. Gridskipper’s bounce direction tends vertically. Having a gun that bounces straight up and down is always better than one that bounces to the left or right. The 55 recoil is also not bad.

It has a good perk pool too. Multikill Clip in the final slot is what you want to go for. For the third slot, I would recommend Heating Up, Killing Wind, or Tunnel Vision if you’re playing 6v6.

Moving target is good for those 1v1 gunfights. Adds on some additional aim assist on top of its already good aim assist. Plus you can slap on Targeting Adjuster for even more aim assist. You don’t need Counterbalance.

Verdict

Overall, this gun just feels solid. In terms of the Timeworn, it still wins in the effective range category. But as mentioned earlier, Gridskipper just feels better and more sticky. I can’t be in denial about this weapon any longer.
