For Honor advanced counter guard break guide
If you know anything about fighting in For Honor, it is that you need to know how to counter guard break. Especially when you have characters like the Raider and the Warlord who can guard break you and carry you across the map to throw you off a cliff or into wall hazards. So here is a For Honor advanced counter guard break guide. Let’s look at a few things that may help your timing when it comes to counter guard breaking.
Defensive mindset
First, to counter a guard break you need to be expecting it. Whenever you get closer to an opponent try to get into a defensive mindset. Try to make blocking and counter guard breaking a little more of a priority than attacking. I know this may sound like common sense but this actually is something that can slip your mind in the middle of battle. Whenever you do attack, execute it then jump right back into your defensive mindset.
Your Indicator
You may know by now that in order to break a guard break you have to press the guard break button as soon as you see the shield button from your opponents shield indicator. However, there is another thing that you can look at. If you look at your character indicator during your opponent’s guard break, you will see a white shield icon in your indicator.
Whenever your opponent executes a guard break, this icon will show up and begin sliding upward to the left. This is your opening to press the guard break button to do a counter guard break.
If you miss this time frame, the shield indicator will turn red. This means that you didn’t press it in time and your opponent has landed a successful guard break on you.
Light Attack Interruption
Another way to interrupt your opponent’s guard breaks is to throw out light attacks. If you notice any of the times where your opponent likes to throw a guard break, just light attack. Your opponent guard break will get interrupted and he will get hit. Also, it is possible with some characters to dodge a guard break but most of the time their guard break will land on you if you are in the middle of dodging.
Practice
Above all, the best way to learn the timing of the counter guard break is to practice.
To do this, go to “how to play” at the home screen menu and then go to “advanced practice”.
Spend some time practicing the guard break here until you get the timing down. Try to look at some of the details I mentioned above as you are practicing. After you get the timing down, go do some 1v1 brawls and try to focus on counter guard breaking.
