Ever since Respawn announced this game they had kept a secret the whole time during production, I’ve heard nothing but good things about it. After playing it, I found myself becoming addicted. That’s always a good sign in my book.

I have no doubt in my mind Apex Legends will have success. It has something very unique that other Battle Royals don’t have. In my opinion, the last BR to do something on this level was Fortnite and we see how successful that game is.

Of course, like any game, the hardest part of this game is learning how everything works. In this post, I will go over things you need to know. At the time of this article the game, was still new so I will update it as time goes on. This article is also written assuming most of you have played battle royals before.

Ammo/ Ammo Types

Let’s start with ammo. There are four types of ammo packs and you will need the corresponding ammo type for the weapon you are using.

  • Light Rounds (brown)
  • Shotgun Shells (red)
  • Heavy Rounds (blue)
  • Energy Ammo (green)

Light Rounds

The list of weapons that require this type of ammo are:

  • RE-45 AUTO (Pistol)
  • P2020 (Pistol)
  • R-301 Carbine (Auto Rifle)
  • R-99 (SMG)
  • Alternator (SMG)
  • G7 Scout (Light Sniper Rifle)

Shotgun Shells

The list of weapons that require this type of ammo are:

  • Mozambique Shotgun (Shotgun Pistol)
  • Peace Keeper (Shotgun)
  • Eva-8 Auto (Shotgun)

Heavy Rounds

The list of weapons that require this type of ammo are:

  • Wingman (Revolver Pistol)
  • M600 Spitfire (LMG)
  • Longbow DMR (Sniper)
  • Prowler Burst PDW (5-burst SMG)
  • Hemlok Burst AR (3 Burst Auto Rifle)
  • Vk-47 Flatline (Auto Rifle)

Energy Ammo

The list of weapons that require this type of ammo are:

  • Triple Take (Triple-Barrel Sniper)
  • Devotion (LMG)

Exotic Power Weapons

Currently there are two extremely powerful exotic weapons that you can find in the game. These weapons come pre-loaded with ammo and you can’t attach any mods or attachments to them like you can with other weapons. These weapons will appear yellow in your inventory.

Those weapons are:

  • Kraber .20-Cal (Sniper)
  • Mastiff (Shotgun)

Gear (Armor, etc)

As you’re playing, there are four gear pieces that you want to find as soon as possible. These gear pieces will determine your level of survivability during a gunfight. Those gear pieces are:

  • Helmet- Protects your head
  • Body Armor- Protects your body
  • Knockdown Shield- Allows you to put a shield in front of you when you get knocked down and makes it more difficult for enemies to finish you off.
  • Backpack- Allows you to carry more items

4 Gear Tier Levels

There are also 4 tier levels of gear. The higher the level the better the gear. The levels are white, blue, purple, yellow.

Helmet

  • White Helmet- minimal protection
  • Blue Helmet- moderate protection
  • Purple Helmet- maximum protection
  • Yellow Helmet- maximum protections + faster tactical and ultimate cooldowns

Body Armor

  • White- protects 50 damage
  • Blue- protects 75 damage
  • Purple- protects 100 damage
  • Yellow- protects 100 damage + refills shields after an execution

Knocked Down Shield

  • White- 100 damage absorbed
  • Blue- 250 damage absorbed
  • Purple- 750 damage absorbed
  • Yellow- 750 damage absorbed + you can revive yourself once

Backpack

  • White- carry 2 more items
  • Blue carry 4 more items
  • Purple – carry 6 more items
  • Yellow- carry 6 items + faster health and consumable useage

Weapons

I’ve listed all the weapons above. You will have to try them out as you’re playing to see which one suits your play style or check out my top 5 recommended weapons.

Each weapon can be equipped with attachments (scopes, barrels, stocks, etc ) that will improve the weapon in a way. These stocks also come with tier levels so assume that the higher the tier level is, the better. Some guns really become deadly with certain attachments.

Not all attachments can be placed on every gun. Each gun have specific attachments that can be attached to it. The game does a good job of letting you know if an attachment that you come across is compatible with the weapon you are carrying. Once you get a weapon that you like, try to get familiar with the attachments that gun can equip and pick it up when you come across it, even if you don’t have that weapon yet.

Consumables

Just like the gear and weapon mods, the consumables have tier levels too. There are health and shield consumables that will restore more than others. There are also consumables that will completely restore both.

Some of the consumables I would highly recommend looking for are the Ultimate Accelerant and Phoenix Kit. Ultimate Accelerant knocks about 20 seconds off your ultimate time and Phoenix Kit completely restores your health AND shield.

Characters

You will definitely need to try out characters to see which ones you’re interested in. One thing you should notice is that there are 4 different character types (so far). Assault, Scout, Defender and Support.

Apex Legends_20190206182419

Ideally, a team where each is a different type might be the best team set up. However, you can pick whoever you want.

Tips

  • With full health and shield, your hp (or the enemies) will be 200HP
  • When shooting an opponent, pay attention to the color of the damage numbers. When the numbers are red, that means that they don’t have any shields, which your team should probably push for the attack. If you see white, blue or purple, then that is the level of their armor (see about for tier levels). If it is yellow, then you got a headshot!
  • You can run faster by holding the weapon swap button and holstering your weapon.
  • Climb up the red ballons to glide large distances.

So hopefully that covers most of what you need to know. Drop in, loot up and stick with your team. If there’s anything else, I will post the new info below here.
