Back 4 Blood is almost here and with it comes new Back 4 Blood Monsters. I can already imagine myself gathering with my friends, eating snacks, and slaughtering zombies like how I did back when we religiously played Left 4 Dead 2. It took 11 years, but all is good in the world again.
Back 4 Blood will introduce new gameplay elements this time around. As mentioned, one of those gameplay elements will be all the new monsters (or special infected). In Left 4 Dead 2 we had monsters like the Spitter, Jockey, Tank, etc. Here are all the Back 4 Blood monsters we know of so far.
Back 4 Blood
Zombies… or should I say “Ridden”
It’s worth mentioning that this game is in a separate universe from Left 4 Dead and is more about pushing back than it is survival.
The first thing to note is that the zombies in the game are called Ridden. And as mentioned, we have new special zombies; just like the Boomer, Jockey, Spitter, etc in Left 4 Dead 2. In Back 4 Blood, so far the special infected we know of are the Hocker, Bruiser, Retch, Snitch, and the Ogre.
Hocker
The Hocker is a four-armed special infected that spits webbing at you. If hit, you are stuck in place and your teammates will have to come to get it off you. This means that if you get caught by your self and you get webbed, you’re done for. Especially if your team can’t get to you.
Bruiser
This guy is tall and has a large hammer-like arm that it will try to smash you with.
Retch
The Retch is like a combination of the Boomer and Spitter. It can spit on you from far away but it actually hurts if it hits you. Then it leaves a pool of acid on the ground. If you shoot it outside the weak spot, it will explode.
Snitch
This is basically like the Witch. If you get too close or don’t kill it fast enough, it will let out a screech that will attract a hoard.
Ogre
This guy is huge. Like really huge. Like your characters’ height doesn’t even come up to his knee cap huge. Basically the Tank on steroids.
From what I saw in gameplay videos, Back 4 Blood still has some things it can take from Left 4 Dead. Like more suspenseful sounds, audio cues for the special infected, audio cues for if you get stuck in webbing or are stepping in acid, flashlight toggle, etc.
I plan to do more posts on Back 4 Blood in the future. Check out the Back for Blood category for more of the related post. Follow me on Twitter to get updated!
