If you find aiming difficult in Apex Legends, it could be due to a number of reasons. We could talk about how the game has bullet speed and isn’t hitscan like some other games you might be use to. We can talk about the small hitboxes and the high movement speed.
Whatever the case may be, if you want to be victorious in this game you have to get better. And the best way I can help you do this, is by sharing how I improved myself. So allow me to share how I improved and hopefully you find something useful. If you did, please consider sharing this on Twitter.
I found my sensitivity
Lets start with the simple ones. This is a rule that always applies to these type of games. You may have heard this rule while playing games like Destiny. Always pick the sensitivity you’re comfortable with.
If at any point you feel you need to change your sensitivity, just know that it will take getting used to. So give it some time. I found that a 4 sensitivity was comfortable for me.
I figured out what scopes I liked
Some of the guns can prove to be rather challenging without scopes. Others can prove to be rather challenging WITH certain scopes. Figure out which you like.
Do you like Hcog or Holo? Do you like short zoom scopes or do you prefer a 6x scope? I found that I only like scopes that are no further than 3x.
I LEARNED TO STAY CALM, TAKE MY TIME AND PLACE MY SHOTS
Had to all-caps this one because it’s probably the biggest one I had to learn. I used to panic a bit when engaging an enemy player. The best way I can think to explain this one is: I was TOO eager to kill my opponent while being TOO afraid to die.
This resulted in me spraying and praying. Which usually resulted in me missing my shots. Which usually resulted in me dying.
I believe, that the person who is more calm and confident during engagements is the person who usually come out on top. So I had to learn to slow down my aiming and place my shots accurately. Again, the movement in this game is high so don’t panic shoot.
Let your body armor do its job. I guess the saying “the best defense is a good offense” applies here. They can’t kill you if you kill them first, which you can’t do if you’re missing your shots.
If your opponent is jumping around like a chimp who just drank redbull, just take the time to readjust your aim. Try to predict where they will land and pick that time to shoot
Of course taking too much time will get you killed too
I started hip firing A LOT more
Hip firing allows for better tracking in close situations. Which, again, the movement speed in this game is high so this is useful here.
You may have come from other games that have a high drop off in accuracy if you hip fire so you may have a bad impression about hip firing. But in this game the hip fire actually feels reliable. I’ve seen people hip fire the triple take from medium range and hit with ease.
I got used to bullet speed
As mentioned earlier, this game isn’t hitscan. Hitscan is a calculation performed by a game to find the point at which a given line intersects a game object, and is commonly used to determine whether a bullet or projectile hits a target after being fired from a weapon.
This game is projectile based. The difference between the two is:
Hitscan: the moment you click or press, the bullet will hit whatever your cursor is aiming at.
Projectile: there will be a travel delay so it can miss the target.
This starts to become more important once you get close to mid-range. It becomes an extreme factor when fighting at far range.
Results
With good aim and good decision making, I was about to pull off a victory with 3 other squads left and 1 other teammate who I was able to keep alive.
Hopefully you’ve found something useful here. As a bonus, another thing I do is use the middle of my screen. When you aim, your cursor will always go to the middle of your screen. Keeping this in my mind helps with my accuracy. Try tracking your opponent by keeping him at the center of your screen. Also, make sure your gun has barrels and stocks for maximum accuracy and stability.
