One of the things I love about Monster Hunter is that even though the concept is simple, hunt monsters and get armor, there is still things you may not know even after years of playing. Monster Hunter World will be an introduction into the franchise for a lot of people so I can only imagine the amount of information that they will need to learn. With that said, here are 20 pro tips for Monster Hunter World.
2x Damage on sleeping monsters
When a monster is sleep, your next attack will do 2 times the amount of damage so if you happen to see a monster sleeping, be sure to think about your next move.
Don’t underestimate the power of bombs
Bombs do big damage and going back to the topic of sleeping monsters, bombs are a good way to inflict massive damage in this situation.
Most players drop down the max of 2 Large Barrel Bombs next to the monsters head and ignite them with a regular barrel bomb. If you do this make sure you place the regular barrel bomb far enough away so that it doesn’t hit the monster but close enough to hit the large barrel bombs.
Remember, your next hit on a sleeping monster is the one that does the 2 times damage, so you don’t want the regular barrel bomb to be the one that hit first. Also, to inflict even more damage, try crafting mega barrel bombs.
Use Ancient Potions
Use Ancient Potions to maximize the size of your Health and stamina gauges. At the start of each quest, your health and stamina gauges can be increased by roughly 25 percent, giving you more health and stamina to work with.
Kelbi Horns
While were on the topic of Ancient Potions, to craft them you will need Kelbi Horns. Kelbi Horns come from no other than Kelbi. After you take down a kelbi, you have a chance to get kelbi horns, along with warm pelt and other items. However, there is a way to guarantee that you get a kelbi horn every time.
If you take down a kelbi with an attack that does Knock Out damage, it will cause the kelbi to drop a horn every time. The bow, for example, does the arc shot which rains down pellets that does KO damage to monsters so try to figure out what your weapons KO attack is if possible.
Use a Farcaster for a quick escape
If you find yourself low health with no time to heal and are about to die from a monsters attack, you can use a Farcaster to immediately take you out of battle and back to camp. There you can be safe, heal up and live to fight another day. Farcasters can be crafted using a Smokenut and an Exciteshroom.
Use traps on exhausted monsters
Exhausted monsters stay stuck in traps for a longer duration than neutral or raged monsters. It’s worth mentioning not all monsters get stuck in traps so be sure to use them only on monsters that does get stuck in traps.
The Bow has a useful lunge attack
When using the bow, use the new lunge attack to not only deal a nice amount of damage, but to also mount monsters. The lunge attack can be done by pressing triangle on PS4 or Y on Xbox, after a charging sidestep.
Check a monsters weakness before fighting
Before fighting a monster, check their weakness(es). There are several websites that will give you details about a monster, such as their elemental weakness and critical spots. Knowing these things will allow you to be more efficient when facing a monster.
Sonic pods
Use sonic pods for monsters that dive underground or underwater. Sonic pods will force them back up and leave them stumbling for a short amount of time.
Look for food perks when eating
Food perks will give you additional benefits on your next quest in addition to the perks from your meal of choice. These perks change for each meal (possible to get same perk again) after each quest giving you a chance to receive good perk combinations.
Make good use of the auto combine feature
This feature allows you to automatically combine the necessary materials to make an item as soon as you pick it up.
So for example if you pick up a herb, you can set an auto combine so that picking up a herb will automatically turn into a potion.
Always bring Astera Jerky
When you take damage you may notice a red meter along with your loss of health. That indicates how much health you will naturally heal over time if you dont take any more damage.
Astera jerky will fully heal that damage. Using astera jerky before a potion is more efficient than just using a potion. Astera jerky also heals bleed effects so definitely take some when facing monsters like the Odogaron.
Dung pods repel
If 2 or monsters show up in an area hit one with a dung pod and it will go away…. unless it’s the Deviljho. That guy must like smelling like poop because he doesn’t seem to leave right away after getting hit with dung.
Bring nullberries for monsters that cause blights
Some monster attack will cause effects such as a Waterblight, which will Slows down your Stamina regeneration, or an Iceblight, which will Speeds up Stamina usage. Nullberries will cure these.
Look around the area you are in for toads to trap monsters
Toads like the paralysing toad and the sleep toad will do as their name states after you attack them. With a little timing you can use this to trap a monster. Just be sure not to get caught yourself.
Monster Mining
You can mine the back of monsters like the Radobaan and the Uragaan after you knock them over for additional items and materials.
Take advantage of monsters that fight each other
Monsters actually do a lot of damage to each other so if the monster you are fighting gets attack just hang back for a while.
Trap and status resistance
The more you use a trap on a monster, the more the monster will become resistant to it. This means a monster will break out of your 4th shock trap much quicker than your first. Same goes for things like flash pods and poisoning.
Need to carve insects like Hornetars and Vespoids?
Use poison smoke bombs. These bombs will poison the insect and kill them without breaking them apart, like what using your weapon will do
Bring Lifepowder when hunting with a group
If your teammate is getting roughed up in a corner by a monster and have no time to heal, you can use a lifepowder. Lifepowder heals everyone on your team.
